Daniela Pelgrim - Head Trainer, Founder
My dog journey started with Jessie, a small white fluffball bichon-schnauzer cross. She was trained in the traditional way by choke collar and verbal praise. After she died, Giro, my Smooth Collie, taught me how wrong this approach was, and introduced me to the fascinating world of positive dog training. Kiara, my Whippet, reaped all the benefits, and can't wait for her training every day, all day!
I have completed the Delta Society's Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services course.
I have volunteered at the RSPCA, where I worked with the dogs who needed help with their training and behaviour to improve their chances of being adopted. It was immensely rewarding, but sometimes heart-breaking work.
Through DeltaDogz, I hope to be able to help as many dogs and their people as possible to find out about the fascinating and rewarding world of positive dog training.
About my dogs
Giro my Smooth Collie
A gorgeous boy, he has presented me with many challenges along the way. I am forever grateful to him for not accepting my "dominance" based approach, and to his breeder for pointing me in the right direction.
Kiara my Whippet
This lovely girl is a joy to train and hang out with. We are very lucky to have her in our life. Her high-speed recall has made her the star of our local off-leash!

I have been around animals from my childhood, both through my parents' veterinary clinic and my mother's involvement as a Wildlife Carer. I have always been interested in animal behaviour and have an Honours degree in Animal Science and Management, and a Masters in Animal Science.
Through my job as a Veterinary Nurse, I have learnt to look at all aspects of animal health from the pet's point of view. I developed an interest in helping dogs and their owners in situations that may be difficult to manage, and began looking for positive techniques that help the pet to succeed without punishing them when they fail.

I have always loved animals, and growing up I owned everything from yabbies and hermit crabs to rabbits and lovebirds. I got my first dog when I was 14, a little papillon called Merry. It took us a while to discover clicker training, but it was a revelation. It has worked wonders for my second dog Mystic, who was always a shy dog. Now training is my dogs’ favourite thing in the world, and we have competed successfully in many dog sports.
I have completed instructor training courses run by The Gentle Dog Trainers Association and Southside Dog School, and I have been a volunteer instructor since 2008. I also studied animal behaviour at university, though there we were training fish instead of dogs!
I have successfully completed the Delta Society's Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services course.
I have volunteered for several charities including the RSPCA and Wildlife Helpline, and worked for kennels and vet clinics. I love helping people to have a better relationship with their dogs, it’s the best feeling in the world.
