Positive Dog Training Experts
There are a great many outstanding people who have contributed significantly to the increased awareness and acceptance of positive training methods. Below is just a small selection of my personal favourite experts and authors.
Karen PryorKaren is the founder of Clicker Training, first devised to train dolphins and killer whales. Her bestselling book "Don't shoot the dog" explains the finer details of behavioural training methods using positive reinforcement.

Jean DonaldsonJean is a successful trainer of more than 30 years experience and founder of The Academy for Dog Trainers at The San Francisco SPCA. In her bestselling book "Culture Clash" she sets the record straight about what dogs are really like, and the best way to train them.

Pat MillerPat is one of the many cross-over trainers, who after many years of successfully training with coercive methods, met a dog that made her questions her approach. She has since published one of the best dog training books, "The Power of Positive Dog Training", and runs her own dog training business.

David WestonThe late David Weston may well be the pioneer of positive reinforcement training in Australia. He developed his own positive training approach after becoming disenchanted with traditional training methods. In 1976, he founded The Kintala Club in Melbourne. This club to this day still uses exclusively positive training methods, and offers one of the best run puppy classes around Melbourne.

Morgan SpectorMorgan, a practicing lawyer until recently, was one of the first to use the full power of the clicker for competitive obedience training, after initially training the traditional way. His book "Clicker training for obedience" is a great resource for those who want to take positive dog training and clicker training in particular to the next level.

Mary RayMary is one of the most inspirational dog trainers today. She and her dogs excel in obedience, agility and freestyle - and it's all done by clicker training! Her books are a great source of ideas for those who want to have fun training their dog.

Some of these are Susan Garrett, Pam Dennison, Melissa Alexander, Turid Rugaas, Andrea Arden, Emma Parsons, Leslie McDevitt, Ian Dunbar, Dr. Sophia Yin and Emily Larlham (kikopup on YouTube). Have fun exploring the fascinating and rewarding world of positive dog training!
